Purpose

Use Open to open a document you have previously saved as a file on a storage medium like a hard disk.

When you want to edit a document that is saved on disk, you need to open a copy of the file into a document window. The file then becomes active in your computer's memory so that you can edit it. The changes you make are not recorded until you save the file again.

Steps

  1. Choose Open from the File menu.
    or
Click the Open Document button on the Button Bar.
    or
    Press Ctrl+O.

The Open File dialog box appears.
  2. Select the drive and directory you want to list the files in.
  3. Select the file you want.
  4. Choose Open.
