Typing EW Symbols

Purpose

The easiest way to insert EW Symbols into your document is via the mouse: Access the desired symbols in the Simple Symbols Window or the Compound Symbols Window.

However, to improve editing speed there are many ways to include the keyboard when writing symbols.

Steps

Compound Symbols.

  1. Select a symbol in the Compound Symbols Window by using the arrow, home or end keys. Press Enter to insert the selected symbol into the document.
  2. Type a number, a letter or another simple symbol (see below) to replace any placeholder like x or y. Use the arrow keys to move to another placeholder, if necessary.

Simple Symbols.

EW Simple Symbols that are numerals or that resemble letters of the alphabet are accessible through the keyboard provided that an English or another Latin keyboard is selected in your system. Other symbols located on the keyboard are:

. Period
- Hyphen
= Release
* Asterik
+ Plus
Pressing Plus twice
Pressing Plus three times
Percent
Pressing Percent twice

Although also parentheses, brackets and braces are located on the keyboard, you should mostly refrain from using them and use the predefined templates of the Compound Symbols Window. Typed parentheses or brackets won't stretch themselves according to the size of the adjacent symbol. If you have to change the parentheses or brackets of an existing symbol, use Build Symbols instead.
