Limb and Group Names

Format Limbs, Limb Names or Group Names

Purpose

Use Limb and Group Names to define name styles for selected limb rows or limb groups.

In the document limb names are displayed in special styles, called Long Names or Short Names.

The default settings for these styles may be changed by applying a customized style property to each limb row and limb group.

The actual appearance of the limb names at the left side of your staff will be determined by the definition of the limb's Long Names and Short Names styles, by the definition of the group's Long Names and Short Names styles and by your Name Style selection for the current staff.

Defining different long and short styles allows you use the same staff definition on several staffs or pages and gives you the option e.g. of displaying full limb names on the first page and an abbreviated version on the following ones.

Steps

To change the definition for limb or group names,

  1. choose the Limb Names or the Group Names tab/pane in Format Limbs.
  2. Select the limb rows you want to format in your document or in the Staff Dialog.

All the described settings appear once for the Long Names and once for the Short Name style.

  3. Choose one of the following display modes:

  4. Choose a vertical and horizontal alignment for the name within its cell.
  5. For group names only:
Choose an optional brace or bracket to connect the group name to the limb names columns.

Note: To display properly, you must not display a staff's grid around the group name column.

  6. For group names only:
Check Add Performer if you defined a performer name for the limb group and you want the performer name to appear with the group's name. Additionally you may want to use the Insert Name command to insert the performer name e.g. in a Key Box on the left side of the staff.
  7. Choose Apply.
