Use Limb Names to change the appearance of the limb names at the left staff
side by applying a style.
The styles, called Long Names and Short Names, are defined by the Limbs
and Group Names settings in the Format Limbs dialog. Long Names and Short
Names styles allow you use the same staff definition on several staffs or pages
and give you the option e.g. of displaying full limb names on the first page
and an abbreviated version on the following ones. Furthermore the definition
of the styles need not be the same for every limb or limb group, which gives
you great flexibility in designing the appearance of your staff.
In addition, you may change the way the staff's grid is displayed around the limb names.
Steps
In the Staff Properties dialog, choose the Limb Names tab.
Select one or more staffs.
To select one of the predefined name styles,
choose one of the following options:
Long Names
Short Names
No Names
To edit the style definition in the Format Limbs dialog,
choose Define Styles.
To override the selected style definition and hide the group names,
check the Hide Group Names check box.
To choose one or more of the advanced options, click More.
Column Widths You may override the column widths of the name columns, by unchecking
the Autosize check box and specify width values for the group name and
limb name columns.
The margin value specifies the margin between the column border and the
limb name text. It is used to place the limb name text, and when autosize
is enabled, to calculate the columns' widths.
Borders
Choose whether to display names withing within the staff's grid. Alternatively,
you may produce floating names outside the grid, or group names floating
outside and limb names inside the grid.
Rotate Group Name Rotates the group names by 90°, so they will be displayed
vertically.
Double line
Displays a double line instead of a single line between names and first
column of the staff.
Repeat bar lines
When checking this option, double bar lines will separate the limb name
space from the first staff column only when bar lines exist at the right
side of the last column of the previous staff. Appearance of the bar lines
may vary in different limb rows. Note: Applying this option will override the previous option (double
bar line).
Repeat extra borders
When checking this option, extra borders appearing after the right side
of the last column of the previous staff will be repeated between the
limb name column and the first column of the current staff.
Enable custom column
Usually it is not possible to manually write into the names column. By
checking this option, an additional column is created "behind"
the names column, where you may add custom text and EW symbols.
Note: The text and borders of the regular limb name column is
displayed on top of the custom column, which may lead to awkward results.
You have to define the properties of the columns with care.
