Build Symbols (Size / Align)

Build Symbols, Size / Align

Purpose

Use to set size and align properties of individual symbol items when creating or editing a symbol in the Build Symbols dialog.

Steps

  1. Choose the Size / Align tab in the Build Symbol dialog.
  2. Select a symbol item In the Preview window.
  3. To change the size of a symbol item,
specify scaling factors for width and height values.

To align symbol items horizontally or vertically,
choose one of the options in the Align Horizontal or Vertical drop-down lists.

Note: These options are only available when symbol items in a vertically or horizontally built compound symbol are selected.

Note: Center aligning items with assymmetrical brackets sometimes produces better results when the brackets are ignored in the alignment calculation.
To achieve this, choose the Ignore Brackets check box.

  4. To modify the the placement among symbol items e.g. to make the items overlap,
type an offset value in the Item Position panel to change the item placement relative to the alignment axis.
    or
type a distance value in the Item Position panel to modify the distance between symbol items.

Note: Offset and distance values are defined as percentage of the current symbol items width or height.

  5. To define the selected symbol item as an anchor for symbol align operations,
choose the Item Anchor check box.
When you center align the symbol horizontally in its cell, usually the center of the symbols is aligned with the center of the cell. Using this option, you can override this default behavior, the center of the selected item will be aligned with the center of the cell.
According to this principle, this setting will also affect the vertical alignment of the symbol.
