Purpose

Use Text Properties to change appearance of text in a staff. text boxes, individual cells, cell boxes, headers and footers.

Text appearance in EW Notator is based on styles. There are two types of text styles: paragraph styles and character styles. Depending on the text location (staff, text box, cell etc.), applying a paragraph or a character style has different effects. For details, see Text Basics.

Steps

  1. Choose Symbols from the Format menu, then choose Text Properties
    or
    Choose Text within the Format Bar.
  2. Move the cursor to a text item in a text box, cell, cell box, header or footer.
    or
    Select a range of text.
  3. To apply one of the existing text styles to the selected text,
    choose a paragraph or a character style, then choose Apply.

    Note: Depending on the text location (staff, text box, cell etc.), choosing paragraph or character styles has different effects. For details, see the Remarks section below.

    To change one of the existing text styles,
    right-click the style entry in the paragraph style or character style list, then choose Modify. The Edit Style dialog appears. After changing the style, choose OK. All text items in the current document, which are linked to the changed style, will change their appearance accordingly.

  4. To add a new text style,
    right-click a style entry in the paragraph style or character style list, the choose New Style. The New Style dialog appears. The newly created style will inherit all properties from the selected existing style, but you may override any number of properties in the new style. After setting all the styles properties, choose OK. The style will now appear in the style list box, and it may be applied to text items, as described above.
